Decoding the Genetic Mechanisms of Asian Flush

We are thrilled to share that our lab’s latest research into Alcohol Flushing Syndrome (commonly known as the “Asian Flush”) has been featured by CityUHK News!
While often dismissed as a minor reaction, the facial flushing experienced by nearly 40% of East Asians is a critical biological warning sign. Our study delves into the molecular mechanisms of ALDH2 deficiency, illustrating how the inability to break down acetaldehyde—a toxic byproduct of alcohol—leads to systemic stress and significantly heightened health risks, including esophageal cancer.
This work marks a step forward in personalized medicine and genetic health awareness. A huge thank you to the team for their dedication to solving this long-standing biological puzzle.
